Guess What isn't that Unhealthy, Really?

Alright, I hope I never have to do this again, but here is a link to a cool entry on DailyKos which collects a lot of useful links to evidence that the War on Drugs is both (a) stupid and (b) out of control.

Of special interest to me was this story, which is about research that shows that marijuana smoking isn't really as closely linked to lung cancer as previously thought. Intuitively, it seems like it should be. After all, marijuana smokers generally don't really use filters, and they hold smoke in their lungs, which cigarette smokers typically don't do. But it seems that THC (the active ingredient) kills older cells, and that this slows the spread of cancer.

These findings are from one of the people the jackboots used to like to cite to justify their claims that marijuana was harmful to your health (duh!) and that they were therefore throwing people in jail left and right for their own good. Yeah.

The point, as always, about the War on Drugs is that the government does not have the right to waste our tax money for the purpose of controlling what people freely choose to put in their bodies. That marijuana is not really all that carcinogenic is technically irrelevant: it should be legal regardless of how healthy it is or isn't. Nevertheless, it's gratifying to see one of their main arguments exposed for fraud. Now, as far as I can tell, there isn't even a single shred of rational thought that supports marijuana prohibition. Even those people who think that "cancer prevention" is a cogent justification for arbitrary imprisonment no longer have a leg to stand on.

So...how 'bout it, Uncle Sam? Ready to come to your senses on this? I'm sure we could all use the tax break.
